Prof. Xiangfeng Duan
Chemistry and Biochemistry, Inorganic, Materials, Analytical Chemistry, Nanoscience
Howard Reiss Career Development Chair, Chemistry and Biochemistry
University of California Los Angeles
Prof. Duan is currently Professor at UCLA. He received his B.S degree in chemistry from the University of Science and Technology and China (USTC) in 1997; M.A. degree in chemistry and Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from Harvard University in 1999 and 2002, respectively. Prior to joining UCLA, Dr. Duan was a Founding Scientist and Manager of Advanced Technology at Nanosys Inc.— a startup venture based partly on his graduate research. After spent six years leading advanced technology research at Nanosys Inc., Dr. Duan joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UCLA in 2008, where he was appointed as an Assistant Professor with the Howard Reiss Career Development Chair. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012 and to Professor in 2013. He is an Associate Editor for the journal Nano Research. Dr. Duan’s current research at UCLA focuses on nanoscale integration of dissimilar materials with distinct compositions, structures and properties to create a new generation of integrated material systems with unique functions or unprecedented performance to break the boundaries of traditional technologies. Dr. Duan has published over 80 scientific paper in leading scientific journals with >10,000 citations. He is also the inventor of 36 issued US patents with many more pending.
